A host of Highlanders have been recognized for their play in the 2014 season by being named to the All State, All County and All District Teams by various coaches and writers from around the state. This is a testament to the hard work, dedication and practice that these girls put in day-in and day-out to raise the level of their game. They are the reason that the Highlanders have been one of the state’s winning-est programs for the last ten years and have created a legacy and expectation for greatness at The Woodlands H.S.

At the state level, the Highlanders had the maximum number of girls make the Texas Girls Coaches Association All State Team when juniors Abby Langkamp and Aubrey Leach were recognized for their impressive seasons by high school coaches from around the state. Joining them by being named to the All Star Game is senior Sidney Salmans who will play on the “Blue” Team during the TGCA convention in July. We are still awaiting the results of the Academic All State selections as Highlanders Caitlin Bartsch and Brittany Mann were nominated for their impressive achievements both on the field and in the classroom as well as the results of the Texas Sports Writers Association All-State Selections.

As for the All-Montgomery County Team selected by The Courier, the Highlanders had double the selections of any other team in the county. Abby Langkamp has repeated as the county’s MVP along with Richard Jorgensen who repeats as Coach of the Year. Aubrey Leach was named the county’s Offensive MVP, while sister, Kelcy Leach is the Newcomer of the Year. Joining them on the First Team are Sidney Salmans, Kaitlyn Stavinoha and Amy Cimera with Brittany Mann named to the Second Team.

The Highlanders also had the most selections to the 14-5A All-District Team as selected by the other coaches in the district. Repeating as the MVP of the district is Abby Langkamp as well as Aubrey Leach as the Offensive Player of the Year and Richard Jorgensen as Coach of the Year with Kelcy Leach being named the Newcomer of the Year for 2014. Joining them on the First-Team are Sidney Salmans, Amy Cimera, Caitlin Bartsch and Kaitlyn Stavinoha. Named to the Second-Team are Brittany Mann, Shelby Dublin and Emily Langkamp. Again, it is a testament to the players and the program when so many of them are recognized by their competitors.

The 2014 Highlanders were very successful and now the players are being rewarded for their efforts individually. The best thing about all of this is that it truly demonstrates that when you put the good of the team first and work hard, you will be rewarded individually as well. All of these players are very deserving of these awards and hopefully many more will still come their way as they are all wonderful individuals who have put in the time and effort to be successful. The future looks bright for the program as a lot of these players are underclassmen who will wear a Highlander uniform next year and are still hungry for that state championship!
