Three members of the 2016 Highlander Softball Team were recognized by the Conroe Courier for their outstanding achievements on the field and named to the All-County Softball Team.  This is quite a feat considering the amount of talent in Montgomery County in all classifications.  Kelcy Leach was nominated for several awards and was ultimately named the county’s Defensive MVP.  This follows up her All-District selection for this award and is very deserving as everything on the field starts with her.  Kelcy reads the batters, lines up the defense and calls the pitches accordingly to begin every defensive play for the Highlanders.  Another superlative went to Abby Jones who was named the Montgomery County Newcomer of the Year.  Abby had an outstanding freshman campaign starting every game at shortstop where she consistently made the tough plays in the field and backed it up at the plate by leading off for the Highlanders.  Rounding out the selections is Emily Langkamp who was named the First Team Pitcher.  Emily pitched the majority of the innings this year and won games against state and nationally ranked teams with high powered offenses to help guide the Highlanders into the postseason.  There are many more deserving players on the roster who could have just as easily been recognized as well.  The good thing, is that the majority of the team will be back next year and have another opportunity to show the county how good they really are!  Here we go!  Here we go!  ATTACK!

Rachel DeChiara was named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Academic All-State Team.  Nominees must have maintained a 94 average or above throughout their entire high school career and be of good moral character.  Rachel has exceeded these requirements and shown considerable drive and dedication throughout her four years at The Woodlands H.S.  Not only has she maintained these grades while playing softball, she’s also an active member and officer in the school’s FFA chapter.  Softball and FFA both require a lot of time commitments and to be able to maintain her GPA through all of that is a testament to Rachel’s passion and work ethic and will go a long way to prepare her for the future.
