The Highlanders moved into second place in District 16-6A with the 7-2 victory over Kingwood Friday night at Highlander Field.  This was a highly anticipated match-up between two programs that know each other well.  The Highlanders started the game off strong retiring the first two batters with infield pop-ups and working out of a bases-loaded jam by getting a third infield pop-up to finish the inning.  Aubrey Leach then started things off as she is usually does by singling a 3-2 pitch to left.  She then proceeded to steal second before Alayis Seneca sacrificed her to 3rd.  Kaitlyn Stavinoha then had one of her two hits on the night and scored Aubrey.  Kaitlyn stole second and scored on Abby Langkamp’s line-drive home-run to center that gave the Highlanders the 3-0 lead.  The score would stay that way until the bottom of the 4th when Abby came back up and hit another home-run to center field.  Kingwood was able to push 2 runs across in the top of the 6th with a home-run of their own before The Woodlands answered with 3 more runs in the bottom half of the inning thanks to doubles by Abby and Kerry Martinez.

The Langkamp sisters dominated in the circle as Abby got the win and Emily the save.  Abby went 5 1/3 striking out 7 while walking only 1 and was one pitch away from securing the shutout.  Emily came in and closed out the 6th by striking out the first two batters that she faced and added one more in a 1-2-3 seventh to close out the game.

This was a solid Highlander victory at home against a tough opponent that will help prepare this team for a deep playoff run.  There’s still a lot of softball left to be played as the second round of district starts tomorrow against Conroe.  So get ready, come out early, wear red and green and be loud!  Here we go!  Here we go!  Braveheart!
