The Highlanders scored first and never looked back.  This time it started with the bottom of the order striking first in the 3rd.  Roma Thornton led off the inning with a walk and proceeded to steal second.  Aubrey Leach drew a walk after getting behind in the count 0-2.  Alayis Seneca then laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third.  Kaitlyn Stavinoha came up next and hit a hard ground ball up the middle that was fielded by the shortstop.  But the play pulled her towards second allowing Roma to score easily.  Belton was able to scratch a run in the top of the 5th to tie it up but the Highlanders answered right back in the bottom of the inning.  Kerry Martinez drew a walk to lead off and Roma followed with another single.  Aubrey then sacrificed them to second and third on a bunt that she came close to beating out.  Alayis followed with an infield single that scored Kerry and moved Roma to third.  Kaitlyn then laid down a beautiful squeeze that scored Roma to give the Highlanders the two run advantage.  Belton came right back and drew a bases-loaded walk to make it a one-run ballgame again.  After that, Emily Langkamp who entered the game in the fifth, proceeded to strike out the next three batters to end the threat.  She also struck out the last batter in the top of the 7th to end the game.  Emily ended the game with 5 strikeouts while Abby had 3 of her own.  Kaitlyn and Aubrey played awesome defense on the left side of the field with Shelby doing a great job of finishing the plays at first to allow only 2 hits in the game to a potent Belton offense.  The Highlanders are going to have to bring their “A” game tonight against this gritty Tiger team.  The fan support was awesome in Game 1 and we’re going to need it again tonight to close out this series.  So, wash your red and green, gas up the car, and head to Mumford early and be loud as you cheer on the girls in their quest for that State Title.  We’ll be the visitors in the 1st base dugout.  Here we go!  Here we go!  Braveheart!
