The Highlanders scored early and never looked back as they were victorious against Liberty and Brazoswood in the Highlander Invitational Varsity Tournament. Against Liberty, the team speed and small ball were on display in the bottom of the first as Aubrey Leach reached on a lead-off walk and proceeded to steal second. Alayis Seneca then reached safely on a bunt that advanced Aubrey to third. The next play saw Kaitlyn Stavinoha, who was perfect on the night going 2 for 2, execute a sacrifice that scored both Aubrey and Alayis. Kelcy Leach hit a double and scored on a single by Emily Langkamp to end the first. The Highlanders tacked on 3 more runs in the bottom of the 4th before time expired in the bottom of the fifth giving The Woodlands the 6-2 victory. Kaitlyn and Kelcy both had doubles in the game while Aubrey stole 2 bases and Alayis had one more of her own to add to the Highlanders’ season total. In the circle, Abby Langkamp pitched four innings, striking out 3 while Emily Langkamp struck out 1 for the save.

The second game of the night pitted The Woodlands against a stout Brazoswood team. Again, the Highlanders scored early and never looked back. Aubrey led off the game with a double on some aggressive base-running followed by a bunt single by Alayis that scored Aubrey and put her at second. Kaitlyn then ripped a line-drive double that scored Alayis. Kaitlyn advanced to 3rd on a passed ball and scored when Kelcy put down a perfect squeeze bunt that allowed her to reach safely and advance to second on the play. Kelcy eventually came in to score on a wild pitch to give the Highlanders a 4-run lead after the first inning. The Woodlands scored again in the bottom of the 5th when Kelcy launched a 2-run home run scoring Kaitlyn who was perfect again for the game and added a stolen base. Emily went the distance in the circle surrendering only 2 hits and 2 walks with a strikeout and was backed up by some spectacular defensive plays by Kaitlyn and Aubrey to preserve the shutout 6-0 victory against a potent offense.
